An homage to the site's use as a former grey iron foundry, the project's name represents its history and former productivity, as well as its capacity to be molded into a reimagined form with a variety of viable and exciting uses.
The project involved the demolition of most of the interior of a two-story, 6,000-square-foot brick building that dated back to 1907. Interior demolition work was also done on an attached 47,000-square-foot, one-story former steel fabricating plant that dated back to the 1950s.
The Family Health Center of Kalamazoo’s dynamic $8.3 million expansion of its existing facility allowed it to double the number of patients it treats each year.
The 41,000-square-foot expansion and renovation project was constructed of structural steel with a masonry and metal panel façade. The new facility tripled the exam room space and included a highly efficient medical pod layout, new pharmacy, welcoming patient waiting areas, courtyards, locker rooms, classroom space, and a centrally located stimulating administration space.
CSM Group served as the construction manager for the new KVCC Bronson Healthy Living Campus, a health-focused campus in the heart of downtown Kalamazoo.
The new campus was developed on 13.3 acres of unused land donated by Bronson Healthcare Group, where KVCC has expanded its curriculum to include training in sustainable food production, distribution, and preparation.
