Kalamazoo Event Center

The Kalamazoo Event Center is a landmark $515 million, 453,000-square-foot development set to redefine downtown Kalamazoo’s skyline and energy. Designed to host over 230 events annually, including concerts, community gatherings, and sporting events, the facility will serve as the new home for Western Michigan University’s basketball and hockey programs, the Kalamazoo Wings professional hockey team, and numerous regional events.

The state-of-the-art complex will feature an arena, practice facilities, student-athlete amenities, multipurpose event spaces, administrative offices, and a multi-level parking deck, creating a year-round destination that blends athletic performance, entertainment, and civic engagement.

CSM Group was directly awarded the project based on a foundation of trust and proven delivery performance. Recognizing the project’s scale and complexity, we rapidly formed a Joint Venture with Barton Malow, combining Barton Malow’s national sports facility expertise with CSM Group’s local leadership, partnerships, and community alignment. Together, our team is purpose-built to deliver this generational project with the speed, scale, and sophistication it demands.

To support the new facility, the City of Kalamazoo is undertaking major upgrades to its utility infrastructure, including improvements to gas, electric, water, wastewater, and stormwater systems,  in collaboration with Consumers Energy and other regional partners. This level of coordination underscores both the Event Center’s regional significance and the JV team’s collaborative, forward-thinking approach to delivery.
