CSM Group, Comstock Township, and Comstock Fire & Rescue broke ground on October 8 on the new Fire Station 9-3 at 10080 E. Michigan Ave. (M-96). CSM Group is the construction manager on the $12.5 million project.
The 23,011-square-foot station replaces a building the department has outgrown. It’s designed around the health, readiness, and reach of the firefighters who will use it:
- Five apparatus bays, up from two, so equipment now housed across several stations can be kept in one place
- Quarters for a full-time crew of six, plus administrative offices for Comstock Fire & Rescue
- Dedicated decontamination areas and separate men’s and women’s locker rooms to reduce firefighters’ exposure to carcinogens after a fire
- A regional training center with a 50-person training room and a three-story non-burn training tower, open to neighboring departments
The station’s east-side location will also balance emergency response times across the township.
“Congratulations to Chief Beauchamp and the entire Comstock Fire & Rescue team on reaching this milestone," said Stuart Mason, CEO of CSM Group. "Their firefighters show up for this community every day, and they deserve a station that shows up for them. We’re proud to be building more than a facility. We’re helping build a legacy that will protect and serve Comstock Township for generations.”
The station was designed by Jones Petrie Rafinski (JPR), an architecture and engineering firm based in South Bend, Indiana. Substantial completion is targeted for January 31, 2028.
