CSM Group is proud to announce that The Foundry has received the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Southwestern Michigan Chapter Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement award. The project was recognized at an awards luncheon on Wednesday, April 11 at BraVo! in Portage, Michigan.

The Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Award recognizes a project that demonstrates the highest level of engineering skill and that “represents the greatest contribution to civil engineering progress and mankind.” Projects must exemplify an aspect of civil engineering, while it should demonstrate the use of innovations in materials, technology, or construction methods.

As a winner at the local level, the project was submitted to the ASCE Michigan Chapter where it received a Certificate of Merit.

The site development and construction of The Foundry contained many challenging components, including remediation of contaminated site soils, extensive hydraulic studies and reshaping of Portage Creek’s riverbeds on the project site, and design and construction of a new traffic signal and road. There were also on-site organic soils that required means and methods, such as surcharging and over-excavation.

We would like to thank the organizations that made this project a success, including:

  • Treystar
  • Hurley & Stewart
  • SME
  • Eckert Wordell
  • City of Kalamazoo
  • Michigan Department of Environmental Quality
  • Michigan Department of Transportation
  • Consumers Energy
