THE EAST SIDE
Editorial comment from Steven A. East President
of CSM Group
INTENSIVE CARE - A BIG REASON WE'RE SUCCESSFUL IN HEALTHCARE CONSTRUCTION
People are born at hospitals all the time. But how many
companies can make the same claim?! At CSM Group,
we can. And a quick look back helps explain how our
important healthcare experience has helped us achieve
success not only in that industry, but in many others,
as well.
Over 23 years ago, the company that has become
CSM Group got its start as Bronson Builders and
Design, a partnership of Bronson Healthcare and
an architectural firm. We specialized, of course, in
building healthcare facilities.
In 1990 we became a private enterprise, but that early
healthcare experience has remained a very valuable asset.
Sure, it has been a factor in our selection for numerous
healthcare-related projects, many of them from Bronson.
But it has also helped us in other, less obvious ways.
Successful healthcare projects can be very complicated,
and require sophisticated management skill and
commitment. Naturally, all projects deserve and require
thorough planning and relentless attention to detail. But
for healthcare, those are just the beginning.
Consider the extra demands in healthcare. From day one,
you are working in an environment that impacts peoples’
health…in many cases, people who are already sick or in
need of treatment. Incredible attention must be paid to
issues of cleanliness and sanitary practices to prevent the
spread of infections.
You are also in proximity to technologies that are cuttingedge,
incredibly expensive, and often very sensitive.
Add to that equation a steady stream of in-patients,
out-patients, visitors, doctors, nurses, and countless
other medical personnel—and the need to ensure not
only the safety, but the privacy of all those individuals.
Put simply, it requires a different level of unique skills,
means, and methods. Perfection isn’t simply some lofty
notion to “aim for.” It’s a specific level of performance
that simply must be achieved.
All that having been said, thanks to our medical origins
and frequent healthcare projects, this kind of commitment
has become part of our company’s culture. These
standards are a good representation of how CSM Group
approaches every project. We just can’t help ourselves!
Now, if you were building a building—any kind of
building—isn’t that the kind of dedication you’d choose
to put in your corner?
We have the greatest respect for the training,
commitment, sacrifices, and excellence that talented
doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals put
into their work. I guess it takes one to know one. |
