THE EAST SIDE
Editorial comment from Steven A. East
President of CSM Group
IT'S GREAT NOT
TO BE NEEDED.
I've known a lot of business owners
who think of themselves as the
irreplaceable soul of the business.
And deep down, that makes them feel
good. Understandable-they've put a
lot of effort into it. But often, it also
means they need to put their
fingerprints on everything, and others
may be afraid to make a move without
their approval.
Now, I'm as proud as the next guy.
But, if you're a client of CSM Group,
and haven't spoken to me lately, that's
probably a pretty good sign. Because
that means you're being well taken
care of by some of the finest
professionals in the construction
industry. Not because they work
for CSM Group, but because
those are the type of people CSM
Group selects.
We put tremendous emphasis on
recruiting the finest talent we can find.
It's more than just being "picky."
We've adopted some very specific
and unique screening and interviewing
practices, and work with the finest
personnel consultants in the country.
As a talent-based organization, that's
the only way to protect and grow our
most dramatic difference in a
competitive marketplace. Once you
hear some of the client testimonials
we get about our people and their
performance, you see very clearly how
it pays off.
It's not false modesty when I say CSM
people-like our newly-named Group
V.P.s Curt Petersen, Tim Ankney, Lisa
Prasher, and Todd McDonald-can
handle a project as well as I can, and
probably better. They've got the
inherent talent to know what to do.
And I've got that same kind of
confidence in everybody in the place.
When we hire the caliber of people we
do at CSM Group, the last thing I want
to do is get in their way. If I did, you
wouldn't benefit as greatly from their
substantial talents. And frankly, they
wouldn't stay long.
I'm so proud of my team, I walk
around most days with a big smile on
my face. It's an honor to work with
them. Professional respect makes for
good chemistry.
Some business owners are
uncomfortable sharing the credit and
do so grudgingly. Me? I'm tickled
pink to do it. Because I'm not
interested in building a monument-
just an incredible company with an
awesome reputation.
Thanks,
everybody! |
