THE EAST SIDE
Editorial comment from Steven A. East President of CSM Group
"LEADING WITH A CULTURE
OF SAFETY" is much more than a byline in our marketing material. It is a subject that we discuss daily and is a placeholder as one of our company's principal objectives.
Not only are we a leader in the management of safe worksites, we are also innovators with respect to safety practices and procedures.
To that effort, I am pleased to announce that CSM has taken another proactive step in our approach to promoting safety and purchased 20 Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs) to keep at every jobsite we are involved with- just in case. Signage will make it clear that this important device is on-site. We have also placed AEDs in our Galesburg and Grand Rapids offices. Having AEDs on each jobsite is not mandated by any state or federal safety requirements. It's simply the responsible thing to do.
The AEDs are quite remarkable; they do most of the work for you. Once attached to the victim it automatically detects which treatment is appropriate, and gives the rescuer instructions for administering treatment via audio prompts. This is the same kind of equipment that's often used in hospitals, by emergency medical services personnel, and first responders such as police officers and firefighters.
All of our employees have been trained in First Aid, CPR, as well as the risks and management of blood-borne pathogens, and they are now certified to use the company's AEDs. Certainly our hope is that they will never be needed. But if an emergency occurs, it's reassuring to know that we have these life-saving devices nearby and our people are knowledgeable in their use. It's another reason why building owners trust CSM Group.
