Steve East is Finalist as Entrepreneur of the Year
Building things—whether buildings, customer
relationships, a talented employee base, or proprietary
technologies—has made CSM Group a highly
successful West Michigan construction management
firm and President Steve East a finalist in Ernst & Young’s
Entrepreneur of the Year Award. The ceremony
was held on June 9, at the Amway Grand Plaza
Hotel’s Ambassador Ballroom in Grand Rapids.
The EOY Awards program has been lauding the
efforts of entrepreneurs since 1989 and, in the
past, the awards judging and events were held
in Dearborn and included all businesses in Michigan.
In 2001, distinct districts were created within
the state to provide greater opportunity for
regional businesses to be recognized. The district
our area falls in includes West Michigan and
Northern Indiana.
Finalists for 2005 hail from the length of the “mitten" and
extend east to include one finalist from Jackson.
Individuals are recognized by judges as industry
leaders and their companies must have exhibited
a substantiated and sustained operating growth
in employment, earnings and revenue over a period
of two or more years. The six categories in the
competition include: Architecture and Design,
Technology, Financial Services, Retail and Entertainment,
Consumer Products and Services, and Business
Services.

The EOY Award winner was Ron Schults, CEO of
The Abonmarche Group.
Says East, “To get as far as I did in
the voting, and to be recognized as a finalist
in the Architecture and Design category was a
great honor in itself. The other finalists and
the ultimate winner of the Entrepreneur of the
Year Award were truly deserving of the distinction."
