CSM Group, Julie Byrne Honored by the National Association of Women in Construction
West Michigan—The Kalamazoo/Battle Creek Chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) has presented its Best Program Award for 2006 to CSM Group for its project The Richmond Center for Visual Arts at Western Michigan University.
CSM Group, one of Michigan’s leading construction management firms, was recognized due to the significant participation of NAWIC members in the organized tour of the unique project, which features a variety of complex and unusual finishes. Designer of the project was Smith Group.
Additionally, Julie Byrne, a CSM Group Associate Partner and Project Manager, received the NAWIC “New Community Leader” Award. Byrne was honored for her contributions to the construction of the new Girl Scouts of Glowing Embers Council Program and Training Center in Kalamazoo.
Byrne not only managed the construction process, but also worked creatively with project partners to include features that would provide extra learning opportunities for the Girl Scouts. Walls with see-through panels, for example, will allow girls to better understand building systems and the construction techniques employed. NAWIC is hopeful that Byrne’s work will encourage young women to consider the field of construction.
