CSM Group Lends a Helping Hand to Those Who Lend a Helping Hand
Southwest Michigan—Housing Resources, Inc. (HRI) is used to helping people in need. Their mission is to assure housing for socially or economically vulnerable residents of Kalamazoo County. So you can imagine their joyful surprise when Steve East, President of the construction management firm CSM Group, turned the tables on them and offered his help in replacing their worn-out, 16-year-old, outdoor playground structure.
"We were so thrilled with his offer," says Molly Petersen, Associate Director of HRI. "We didn't waste any time writing up a grant and submitting it to the Kalamazoo Community Foundation to gain funding for the project." In March, 2005, the grant was approved and by the following July, CSM Group began equipment installation and landscaping.
The new playground includes a combination of slides, crawling tubes, steps/ladders, fencing and other landscaping. "It's been a hit with the children ever since," adds Petersen. "We want to thank Steve East and all the CSM Group volunteers whose compassion and hard work are inspirations to all, and to the Kalamazoo Community Foundation for recognizing the need and approving our request."
