WMU Names CSM Group as Construction Manager for Fine-Arts Facility
Grand Rapids, MI—Western Michigan University recently retained CSM Group as construction manager for its new, $12 million James W. and Lois I. Richmond Center for Visual Arts. The 45,000-square-foot facility will be located on Fountain Plaza between Dalton Center and the Miller Auditorium parking ramp and will be connected to both by enclosed walkways.
According to Tim Ankney, Project Director for CSM Group, about 35,000 square feet of the building will consist of public areas for new galleries, lecture halls and commons areas for the visual arts. The Richmond Center is the first part of a two-phase project to overhaul the university’s visual-arts facilities. Phase two calls for a $13.5 million revamp of Kohrman Hall, previously home to the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences.
Groundbreaking took place on May 12, 2005, and the project is expected to be completed in late 2006 or early 2007.
