Portfolio of Recreation Construction Projects
From dealing with the elements on the outside to controlling the environment on the inside, recreational facilities are sophisticated, complex structures. They require thorough, specialized knowledge of design and construction as well as technology and materials. At CSM Group, we understand the many things that come into play when constructing places to play.

Georgetown Ice Arena

With a strong background in ice arena construction, CSM Group is well versed in the complexities associated with moisture, humidity, year-round temperature control, and dehumidification—even technology that improves ice surfaces and vapor barriers that protect roofs.

City of Walker Ice Arena and Fitness Center

The facility includes a 33,000 square foot ice arena with five full size team locker rooms, a 25,000 square foot fitness center and approximately 22,000 square feet of common space.

Bronson Healthcare Group
Lifestyle Improvement and Research Center

This state of the art fitness facility combines the amenities of a private health club with upscale therapy services.  The structure integrates glass curtain wall systems with brick and limestone.  Its park like setting is unmatched within an existing development park. The 90,000 square foot structure houses a swimming pool, therapy pools, sauna, aerobic studio, racket sports, gymnasium, classrooms, locker rooms, demonstration kitchen, physicians offices, snack bar and gift shop along with space devoted to complimentary health care services.

Cheff Therapeutic Riding Center

This project is a 27,000 SF arena facility for equestrian use to support those with disabilities. This unique facility was contracted under a Design / Build agreement to reconstruct a facility that collapsed in a Dec. 2000 snowstorm.

Airway Lanes

This project is a major renovation of a building originally constructed in 1955.  The facility was vacant for a period of three years prior to the start of work.  The scope of work included stripping the facility to the shell and completely building out a state of the art bowling and recreation center.

Wings Stadium - The Cube

Several different footprints and locations were considered in light of the fact that this would be the third sheet of ice on the property.  The impact on parking, interior and exterior traffic flow, grades and storm water retention were some to the considerations that affected not only where the building would be located but how large it could be.  Several of CSM's personnel posses an intimate knowledge of the function and flow of ice arenas as a result of their long-term involvement from a user group standpoint.

Kalamazoo Advantage Academy

This project located in downtown Kalamazoo in the Columbia Plaza Building consists of the renovation and creation of a gymnasium for a charter school in a portion of the building formerly containing a night club and office space.

Gull Lake View Golf Course

Service to the existing facility was maintained during construction of the new addition and the balance of the interior work was scheduled to coincide with the Owner’s seasonal occupancy. Features include maintaining and enhancing panoramic views of Gull Lake and the integration of existing exterior finishes and architecture to provide a seamless new vs. old transition.

Kalamazoo County YMCA Natatorium Addition

This project included demolition of the existing pool and a small bathhouse to allow the addition of a new 25-yard, six lane, indoor pool with locker rooms, storage and mechanical support spaces. The main entrance and lobby for the entire facility was relocated to the west side, closer to the main parking lot and incorporated into the addition. An existing power company transmission line and easement, along with the existing parking lot placed tight limitations on the possible location and orientation of the addition.

Jackson Optimists Ice Arena

CSM Group managed the construction of a second sheet of ice on the property (addition to an existing facility).  The addition included six locker rooms, new dehumidification system, new ice resurfacer maintenance garage, lobby, concessions, and public restrooms.

Gull Lake Country Club

The Gull Lake Country Club project consists of a 2,500 sf dining room addition and a major kitchen expansion. A new bar and grille area was created featuring a replica wooden boat utilized as a bar. A new, separate entrance area was created along with new toilet rooms to accommodate the new bar and grille. Service to the existing facility was maintained during construction of the new addition and the balance of the interior work was scheduled to coincide with the Owner’s seasonal occupancy.
