Kalamazoo County Juvenile Home

Welcome to the project newsletter for the Kalamazoo County Juvenile Home project!  An updated newsletter is published on a monthly basis in an effort to keep the community and neighborhood surrounding the project abreast of construction activity and important project updates. 

On site construction activity progressed through April.  Earthwork is now approximately 95% complete.  Frost laws enacted by the State of Michigan, which have caused impact to the project and require excavation trucks to follow a longer route from the site, were lifted in April.  Removal of unsuitable soils in unit C is underway.  Some excavation work remains to accommodate footing construction in unit C.  Underground plumbing and electrical work along the east side of the building was completed in April, allowing Grand River to commence the slab on grade construction on the east side of the detention area.  Steel erection commenced on April 21, 2008.  The existing retaining walls at the south side of the existing Juvenile Home and the east side of the Circuit Court Family Division building were removed to accommodate backfilling work. 

The project webcam will be available through the remainder of the project for review of construction activity underway.
